Al-Liqa’ Center organized a lecture by Dr. Saleem Zoughbi titled: “Economic and Social Background of Sectarian Fragmentation in Arab Countries and its Impact on Palestinian Liberation Movement”, at Al-Liqa’ Lecture Hall. Academicians, community leaders and representatives of nationalist forces attended the lecture.
Dr. Geries S. Khoury, the moderator, welcomed those attending and focused on events including civil wars, external interference and their impact on the Palestinian problem.
Dr. Saleem underlined the great conspiracy’s aim is to fragment Arab countries and regimes and to create small states within that to fight each other on religious and sectarian bases. This will lead to the destruction of Arab societies and their armies. Israel will be as a result the only strong and stable country.
These conflicts, in addition, led to the destruction of Arab economies and the resulting dependence on foreign aid.
Concerning the Palestinian problem, Zoughbi said that the absence of Arab interest and stand which would lead to Israeli hegemony and the marginalization of world interest in the Palestinian problem, and in the meantime, Israel will strengthen its ties with some Arab countries.
Foreign interference, conflicts, and civil wars would lead to the failure of democratic attempts in the Arab word. Instead, more extreme elements are emerging as a result.
All these developments will effect negatively the shared living between Muslims and Christians.
A question and an answer session as well as discussion followed Dr. Zoughbi’s presentation.
