His life, works, and Omar’s Covenant
On the 5th of March 2015, at 5 p.m., a distinguished cultural evening was held at the Notre Dame Hotel (LOGOS) Hall on the occasion of the launching of a new book by Al-Liqa’ Center titled: “Book of Evidence on Confirming Faith” Sophronius Patriarch of Jerusalem, His life, works and Omar’s Covenant, study and critical editing by Dr. Geries S. Khoury. Tens of leading personalities from Jerusalem attended this launching which was moderated by Mrs. Nura Karmi of Jerusalem.
Mrs. Katia Emerezian organized this launching and she was helped by al-Liqa, the Sabeel and other organizations in Jerusalem. She welcomed the gathering and stressed that this event symbolizes the unity in this city as seen in the meeting of Sophronius and Caliph Omar.
The speakers included Bishop ‘Atallah Hanna who focused on Sophronius, Mr. ‘Azzam Abu S’oud who underlined the importance of Omar’s Covenant while Fr. Dr. Rafiq Khoury talked about the context of the book.
The author, Dr. Geries S. Khoury, summarized the content and the many challenges which faced Sophronius including the historical context of the period.
The governor and minister in charge of Jerusalem, Mr. Adnan Al-Hussaini, spoke as well. He focused in his brief speech on shared living. He added that terrorist organization do not represent Islam.
