Al-Liqa’ Center for Religious and Heritage Studies in the Holy Land
A lecture by Mr. Ibrahim Matar:
“The Years 1917 and 1948 and the Palestinian Problem”
Thursday 21 January 2016, at 5:00 p.m.,
At Al-Liqa’ Lecture Hall – Bethlehem
Friends of Al-Liqa’ Center from the Bethlehem Governorate attended this gathering. Dr. Geries S. Khoury welcomed attendees and introduced the lecturer Mr. Ibrahim Matar, who focused on the Palestinian problem between 1917 and 1948. He emphasized the role of Great Britain in creating the Palestinian debacle and in furthering the creation of Israel and Israeli settlements. We as Palestinian need to account Great Britain for the great destruction it had caused to the Palestinian Arab people. Palestinians should ask Great Britain to apologize and compensate them for all the destruction it had caused to Palestine and its people as a result of the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917. Mr. Matar asked all Palestinians to demonstrate infront of Great Britain diplomatic missions. He asked the Palestinian Authority to suspend all its diplomatic ties with Great Britain.
Likewise, Israel from 1948 and until today has been liquidating Palestinian properties in order to set up settlements. We should ask all Palestinians to refuse the concept of “Jewishness of the state”. We should address Israel frankly that there will no peace with this state unless Israel acknowledges the uprooting of 750.000 Palestinian and the total destruction of 500 villages in the 1948-1949 war and to apologize to all the crimes it has been committing against Palestinians.
He demanded that the Arab League to ask all Arab Jews to return to their native Arab lands.
Following the lecture, a lively question and an answer and discussion session took place.
