7 February 2007
Al-Liqa’ Center held an open forum entitled “Which National Unity Do We Seek” in which academicians, politicians and personalities from other sectors of society participated in the lively discussions. The panel began with introductory remarks by Dr. Geries S. Khoury, Director of Al-Liqa’. He pointed out the deteriorating political and social conditions in Palestine and in other Arab countries like Irak, Syria, Sudan and Lebanon. He focused on the internal Palestinian situation and on the failure to realize national unity. Discussions followed. All speakers underlined the need to form a national unity government which is able to serve Palestinians and to realize their dreams of establishing an independent state with Arab Jerusalem as its capital. All those attending the panel wished that Palestinian leaders meeting in Mecca would reach an agreement toward a national unity government that would overcome world economic and political boycott of Palestinian Authority government.
